The wreck of the 'Batavia'
(08 Nov): Today we saw the real shipwreck of the 'Batavia', which was wrecked on the WA coast. It had been under the water for 350 years. The museum has to have different air so that the wood doesn't rot on what is left of the Batavia. We also saw the big stone blocks they were carrying to build the rest of their little city in Indonesia. They would give the Indonesians gold and the Indonesians would give them spices in exchange, because they had no spices in the Netherlands. The Batavia didn't manage to get to Indonesia. They got stuck in the strong winds because they went in the wrong direction and the wind pushed their sailing boat onto the rocks.
