Reading Harry Potter in the park with my "iron friend", Port Hedland, WA
(27 Sep) Today we went exploring in Port Hedland, Australia's busiest port, which is in the Pilbara region of WA. We woke up at 5.30am because it was daylight, ready to go on an exciting mining tour. It was to teach us how iron ore is made. Iron ore is a type of metal. It is used in many different ways. Red dirt = iron ore = steel = your car, your house, your caravan, even your kitchen sink! The Pilbara supplies 34% of the world's seaborne iron ore. Was your car born in the Pilbara?
We also saw some of the biggest ships in the world, and learned that world's biggest train was here in Port Hedland, was 680 carriages long and had eight engines.
